Towering volcanoes testify to nature’s power, while a rich archeological heritage bears witness to important indigenous cultures from the past.
Picturesque towns such as San Pedro, Caspana, Ayquina and Chiu-Chiu combine native and Spanish cultures, captivating the visitor with their simple, earthy grace.
Here nature reveals herself in a thousand different forms. Examples are the landscapes of the Valley of the Moon and the Valley of Death, which seem to belong to another planet, the great Atacama salt flat and its numerous flamingo filled lakes, and the mighty vapor eruptions of the Tatio Geysers springing from the depths of the earth.
Exploring this magical region on a bicycle is the best way to experience its unique beauty.

Altiplano
Highlands and Volcanoes: Chungará Lake - Parinacota - Guallatire - Surire Salt Lake - Enquelga - Isluga
Mt.Bike

The Chilean altiplano or highland plateau, located within the Andes mountain range near the border with Bolivia, possesses a unique beauty and very special wildlife. Here llamas, vicuñas, flamingos and guallatas (wild geese) can be spotted against the backdrop of the deep blue Lake Chungara, which lies in the white center of the Surire salt lake bed at the base of the twin Payachatas volcanoes.
This is high plateau country, where intense sun and cold nights challenge the visitor, but those who have made the journey know that the challenge is well worth it. Witnessing the sunset over Lake Chungara, enjoying a relaxing soak in Polloguere hot springs, being observed by big brown eyed vicuñas as they graze freely in the salt lake bed are part of what the cyclist can expect to experience in the the altiplano.

"Escorted by a military truck next to the beautiful Baker river and around woods, cascades and mountains, twenty of cyclists advanced the last kilometers of the new section of the Carretera Austral (Austral Highway) until arriving in bicycle until the beautiful place of Tortel. By this form the rear of Villa Or Higgins was repeated and we transformed ourselves into the first expedition that arrived at Tortel in Bicycle. Houses on palafitos united by footbridges, bridges and perrons, everything constructed in noble wood from Austral forest, make of Tortel a little town from stories. Somebody said; "is like Venice”.
I’m not agree because Tortel is unique! A place of dreams in front of a wonderful bay surrounded by green mountains nailed between the Patagonian Ice. Here there are no streets nor vehicles and the only option is to walk. Very kind and simple people still conserves moral convention to salute, making the stranger feel like an equal one.

Millions of years ago, Patagonia was populated by strange animals. One of these was the Milodon, a sort of bear that stood on its hind legs supported by its thick tail. The Milodon lumbered about the extraordinary natural setting that is today Torres del Paine National Park. The park, located at the foot of jagged peaks crowned with eternal snow, encompasses a fanciful landscape of lakes, rivers, waterfalls and forests. Thousands of years have passed and the Milodon’s faint tracks serve today as beautiful and inspiring trails for the cyclist. Come feel the power of Patagonia’s wind in your face and admire the guanacos in this singular and grandiose landscape.
